*********Absences involving the student-athlete will be excused if the guidelines above are clearly followed. Examples of excused absences: Sick (Doctor’s note), RELIGIOUS COMMITMENT, FUNERAL, FAMILY EMERGENCY, COLLEGE VISIT (CANNOT be the day of a game and should not be the day before a game)
LATE TO PRACTICE
The athlete needs to arrive to practice 15 minutes before the start time. (EXAMPLE: Practice starts at 8:00am---- You need to be on the field and throwing, catching, or stretching at 7:45am) I will start the practice at exactly 8:00am.
WE ASK THAT PARENTS ARE ON TIME TO PICK UP THE ATHLETES AT THE END OF EACH PRACTICE SESSION and ALL AWAY GAMES. As coaches, we are required to stay until all players from our team have left school grounds. PLEASE HAVE A RIDE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER AFTER ALL PRACTICES AND AWAY GAMES.
CONSEQUENCE FOR ARRIVING LATE TO PRACTICE WITHOUT A VAILD EXCUSE:
The athlete will run a chosen sprint for every minute she is late.
ANY TYPE OF VACATION:
The coaching staff is present for ALL practices and games during the season. We do not take family vacations or go away for weekends. Therefore, I expect the same dedication and commitment from my athletes. I will never tell an athlete that she can not go; but will tell her consequences will result from the decision.
NO VACATION IS EXCUSED!!! Therefore, the athlete must be willing to face decreased playing time upon her return. The rest of the team will be practicing and playing and will be awarded with the positions. In order for this program to be successful, EVERYONE needs to commit to the team concept.
******The coaching staff must be informed at the start of the season about any type of vacation. A schedule will be handed out to all athletes on the first day of practice.
No set consequence can be given but to expect decreased playing time upon your return. This decreased playing time will not last if the athlete makes every attempt to gain back her spot in the lineup. This rule is only fair to the players who commit themselves to ALL practices and games.
The athletes on this team need to act in an appropriate manner during school hours.
If the student-athlete is found to have discipline related issues on a continuous basis, she will be asked to leave the team.
DISCIPLINE ISSUES: CUT CLASSES, DEFIANCE OF AUTHORITY, ETC.
I expect only the best behavior from my student-athletes. Each athlete is in school to receive and education and getting in trouble is no way to accomplish this goal.
PROBLEMS WITH PLAYING TIME or other concerns
Every athlete will have an individual meeting with the coaches BEFORE THE FIRST OFFICIAL GAME. During this meeting, the coaches will discuss their expectations for the athlete during the season. These expectations will include strengths, weaknesses, field positions and playing time. Playing time could always increase or decrease during the season depending on the effort made by the athlete. This meeting will also give the athlete a chance to express her personal and team goals for the season. Our coaching staff will be completely honest about our expectations and would like the same respect from our athletes. Therefore, we would like the athlete to approach the coaching staff if she is disappointed with playing time or has any other concerns dealing with the team. It is very important that the athlete brings any concerns to the coaching staff in order for us to be aware of any problems and work on discussing and finding a solution to the problem.
The coaching staff WILL NOT meet with any parents to discuss problems with playing time or team concerns unless their daughter is present at the meeting. The coaching decisions may not always be changed; but it is the responsibility of the ATHLETE to discuss the problem. WE encourage all players to approach a coach if they have a problem or a concern.
NO E-MAILS WILL BE RETURNED WITH REGARD TO PLAYING TIME, TEAM ISSUES, VACATIONS, or MISSED PRACTICES. THESE ISSUSES MUST BE DEALTH WITH IN PERSON.
A student’s academic performance is the most important priority. Schoolwork should always come first. Students needing extra assistance in curricular areas are encouraged to seek help before or after school. The student will need to bring a pass from the teacher in order to participate in practice. Students should receive after school help on practice days, not game days. I want my athletes to feel proud of their accomplishments and want them to have success in the classroom. Commitment and dedication to this program also means the athlete’s academic progress. Education will enable you to reach your goals in life. You must take academics seriously and give 100% effort.
All players are expected to ride the bus to all away games and back home. This is an athletic department rule as well as a team rule. If an emergency situation arises, the athlete must submit a note to the athletic director and he will review and approve the note and pass it on to me. The note must be given to the athletic director one day prior to the game. The coaching staff must be made aware of the athlete leaving in advance. No athlete can leave the game with another parent.
