WDHS LACROSSE TEAM EXPECTATIONS

EAGLES GIRLS LACROSSE RULES

WILLINGNESS AND DETERMINATION

ATTENDANCE:

It is crucial that everyone is at practice everyday. We have 20 practices until our first game, that is weather permitted. Since practice time is limited, it is imperative that players attend every practice and every game.  Excused absences include only:

  • Absence from school or early dismissal (Athlete must notify coach via text or call)
  • SAT or PSAT
  • Official college visit for seniors
  • Religious commitment

ONE UNEXCUSED ABSENCE WILL RESULT IN A ONE WEEK GAME SUSPENSION.

TWO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE TEAM.

Please make every attempt to make appointments for times when you do not have practice.  Leaving practice early or coming late can create problems.

If a player is absent from a practice or a game and returns on game day, she will not be able to play in that game.  It is very likely that a player who misses a practice will miss changes made in game strategy, line ups, etc., or is still ill enough that it will affect her performance on the field.  A senior missing practice for an official college visit will not be considered absent. (Cannot be the day of a game and should not be the day before a game).

NECESSARY EQUIPMENT

  • Running shoes for all practice and game days
  • Cleats
  • Goggles
  • Stick
  • Mouth guard
  • Water bottle
  • pinnie
  • Sweat pants and sweat shirt
  • Uniform for game days (provided by the school)
    • Away games – black
    • Home games – white

***If a player does not have required equipment for practice, there will be consequences for forgetting equipment.***

 AWAY GAMES

All players are expected to ride the bus to all away games and back home. This is an athletic department rule as well as a team rule. If an emergency situation arises, the athlete must submit a note to the athletic director and he will review and approve the note and pass it on to me. The note must be given to the athletic director one day prior to the game. The coaching staff must be made aware of the athlete leaving in advance. No athlete can leave the game with another parent.

DISCIPLINE/LATENESS

Discipline problems will not be tolerated.  Depending upon the severity of the problem, a player could be dismissed from the team for either breaking one or multiple infractions based on student code of conduct and/or team rules.

Practice on school days begins PROMPTLY at 2:30 P.M.  If you are late, it is your responsibility to talk to the one of the coaches to see what you missed and what you will need to make up at that time or after practice.  We, as coaches, feel that your school work must come first.  If you have to stay after school and miss some of your practice, you are responsible to make up what you missed. PLEASE BRING A NOTE/PASS FROM THE TEACHER YOU STAYED AFTER WITH TO PRACTICE THAT SAME DAY!

CONSEQUENCE FOR ARRIVING LATE TO PRACTICE WITHOUT A VALID EXCUSE: The athlete will run a chosen sprint for every minute she is late.

Please make sure you have a ride after practice and all away games, and that they are on time. As coaches, we are required to stay until all players from our team have left school grounds.

ANY TYPE OF VACATION:

No vacation is excused. I expect dedication and commitment from my athletes. I will never tell an athlete that she can not go; but will tell her consequences will result from the decision.

The athlete must be willing to face decreased playing time upon her return. In order for this program to be successful, EVERYONE needs to commit to the team concept

The consequence: for as many games you miss while on vacation that is how many games you will sit out. The coaching staff must be informed at the start of the season about any type of vacation.

SCHOOL BEHAVIOR:

The athletes on this team need to act in an appropriate manner during school hours.

CONSEQUENCE:

If the student-athlete is found to have discipline related issues on a continuous basis, she will be asked to leave the team.

DISCIPLINE ISSUES: CUT CLASSES, DEFIANCE OF AUTHORITY, ETC.

I expect only the best behavior from my student-athletes. Each athlete is in school to receive an education and getting in trouble is no way to accomplish this goal.

SMOKING/DRINKING/DRUGS

Under NO circumstances should a player smoke, drink alcohol, or use any type of illicit drug.  Not only is it illegal, but it WILL impair your performance on and off the field.  The team needs every player at peak physical and mental condition at all times.  A player violating this rule will be suspended from practice and games for 15 days, and from games for an additional 15 days.

 COMMUNICATION WITH COACHES

If at any time you have questions or concerns about anything, please see your captain (if it’s a problem the captain can handle) and then see your coach.  Don’t be shy.  Players should act as their own advocates, attempting to solve problems through proper channels on their own.  If you feel you are not satisfied with the results, then we can set up a conference with the head coach with or without parents.

PROBLEMS WITH PLAYING TIME or other concerns

Every athlete will have an individual meeting with the coaches BEFORE THE FIRST OFFICIAL GAME. During this meeting, the coaches will discuss their expectations for the athlete during the season. These expectations will include strengths, weaknesses, field positions and playing time. Playing time could always increase or decrease during the season depending on the effort made by the athlete. This meeting will also give the athlete a chance to express her personal and team goals for the season. Our coaching staff will be completely honest about our expectations and would like the same respect from our athletes. Therefore, we would like the athlete to approach the coaching staff if she is disappointed with playing time or has any other concerns dealing with the team. It is very important that the athlete brings any concerns to the coaching staff in order for us to be aware of any problems and work on discussing and finding a solution to the problem.

The coaching staff WILL NOT meet with any parents to discuss problems with playing time or team concerns unless their daughter speaks to the coaching staff first. If things are not resolved then a meeting with parents and coaches will be set up and the player must be present at the meeting. The coaching decisions may not always be changed; but it is the responsibility of the ATHLETE to discuss the problem. WE encourage all players to approach a coach if they have a problem or a concern.

NO E-MAILS WILL BE RETURNED WITH REGARD TO PLAYING TIME, TEAM ISSUES, VACATIONS, or MISSED PRACTICES. THESE ISSUES MUST BE DEALT WITH IN PERSON.
